Low-contrast Acuity Under Strong Luminance Dynamics and Potential Benefits of Divisive Display Augmented Reality

چکیده

Understanding and predicting outdoor visual performance in augmented reality (AR) requires characterizing modeling vision under strong luminance dynamics, including differences of 10000-to-1 a single image (high dynamic range, HDR). Classic models vision, based on displays with 100-to-1 contrast, have limited ability to generalize HDR environments. An important question is whether low-contrast visibility, potentially useful for titrating saliency AR applications, resilient saccade-induced dynamics. The authors developed an display system up 100,000-to-1 contrast assessed how dynamics affect acuity. They show that, immediately following flashes 25× or 100× luminance, acuity unaffected at 90% letter Weber only minimally affected lower contrasts (up +0.20 LogMAR 10% contrast). resilience across changes opens research divisive (ddAR) effectively titrate salience naturalistic luminance.

Luminance effects on visual acuity and small letter contrast sensitivity.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of luminance on visual acuity (VA) and small letter contrast sensitivity (SLCS). Computer-generated letter charts were used to measure VA and SLCS [6/7.5 (20/25) Snellen equivalent] as a function of stimulus luminance. Letter size (VA) and contrast (SLCS) were varied in equal logarithmic steps, making the task and scoring procedure comparabl...

3D augmented reality with integral imaging display

In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging display for augmented reality is presented. By implementing the pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion method, elemental image arrays with different capturing parameters can be transferred into the identical format for 3D display. With the proposed merging algorithm, a new set of elemental images for augmented reality display is generated...

Aposematic coloration, luminance contrast, and the benefits of conspicuousness

Many organisms use warning, or aposematic, coloration to signal their unprofitability to potential predators. Aposematically colored prey are highly visually conspicuous. There is considerable empirical support that conspicuousness promotes the effectiveness of the aposematic signal. From these experiments, it is well documented that conspicuous, unprofitable prey are detected sooner and aversi...

Information Display for Mobile Augmented Reality

Mobile augmented reality requires accurately alignment of virtual information with objects visible in the real world. We describe a system for mobile communications to be developed to meet these strict alignment criteria using a combination of computer vision and inertial tracking techniques. We discuss the use of the system to display information retrieved from 3D GIS databases and the world-w...

Integral floating display systems for augmented reality.

Novel integral floating three-dimensional (3D) display methods are proposed for implementing an augmented reality (AR) system. The 3D display for AR requires a long-range focus depth and a see-though property. A system that adopts a concave lens instead of a convex lens is proposed for realizing the integral floating system with a long working distance using a reduced pixel pitch of the element...
